Apple has unveiled its latest iPhone lineup, introducing the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and the company's first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo.
The new devices were announced at Apple's September 9 event, marking the company's latest push into the premium smartphone market. The launch also represents the first major iPhone event under new Apple CEO John Ternus.
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max feature Apple's new A20 Pro chip, improvements to battery life and an upgraded camera system. Apple says the camera system includes a new 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera with a variable aperture, aimed at providing greater control over photography in different lighting conditions.
Apple also introduced the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone. The device has a 7.6-inch internal display and a 5.4-inch external display when folded. It is powered by the A20 Pro chip and includes a custom hinge and support for multitasking across its two displays. The starting price is $1,999.
The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299 in the United States. Pre-orders for the two Pro models opened on September 12, with sales scheduled to begin on September 18. The iPhone Duo is scheduled to become available on October 23.
Apple's entry into the foldable-phone market puts it in competition with manufacturers that have already released foldable devices, including Samsung and other major smartphone companies. The high price of the iPhone Duo is likely to make it a premium product rather than a mainstream option.
The new lineup expands Apple's smartphone range while giving consumers more options in design, performance and display size. Whether the foldable model can establish a significant position in the market will depend on consumer demand, pricing and its performance against existing foldable devices.
