Max Verstappen Conquers Singapore as Red Bull Star Claims First Marina Bay Victory
Max Verstappen delivered a commanding performance to win the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday, October 11, securing his first-ever victory at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. Starting from pole position, the Red Bull driver controlled the race from start to finish, overcoming early pressure from Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc before building a comfortable lead under Singapore’s famous night lights.
The victory marked Verstappen’s 73rd career Formula 1 win and came on his 250th Grand Prix start. It also completed an outstanding weekend for the four-time world champion, who had already won Saturday’s rain-affected Sprint and secured pole position for the main race. The result continued Red Bull’s recent resurgence and gave Verstappen consecutive Grand Prix victories following his previous win in Malaysia.
Leclerc finished second for Ferrari, crossing the line 7.335 seconds behind Verstappen. The Monegasque driver challenged for the lead during the opening stages but was unable to match the Red Bull’s pace as the race progressed. Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli secured third place, strengthening his position in the drivers’ championship.
McLaren’s Lando Norris finished fourth, ahead of teammate Oscar Piastri in fifth, while Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton came home sixth. Liam Lawson finished seventh for Racing Bulls, followed by Audi’s Nico Hülkenberg in eighth. George Russell completed the top nine after recovering from a difficult weekend that included a dramatic crash during Saturday’s Sprint and a penalty that forced him to start the Grand Prix from 19th on the grid.
The race also presented strategic challenges for several teams. Verstappen maintained control despite experiencing radio communication problems with his Red Bull team, at times relying on pit-board messages. A virtual safety car period following Lance Stroll’s retirement added another tactical element, but the interruption did little to threaten Verstappen’s advantage.
Antonelli’s podium finish was particularly important in the championship battle. The Mercedes driver extended his lead over teammate Russell to 102 points, putting him in a strong position as the season approaches its final stages. Verstappen’s victory, meanwhile, reinforced Red Bull’s improving form, although the Dutchman still faces a substantial challenge in the title fight.
Singapore has long been a demanding venue because of its tight street layout, heat and humidity. For Verstappen, the victory finally ended a wait for success at Marina Bay after previous podium finishes without a win. His performance across the Sprint, qualifying and Grand Prix made him the standout driver of the weekend.
Attention now turns to the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, scheduled for October 23–25. With the championship battle intensifying and Verstappen finding renewed momentum, the next race could provide another important test for Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull.
